What my Organisation hopes to get out of the HIEC?
London Metropolitan University hopes to gain the opportunity to:
- Influence the vision, development commissioning and provision of education to meet health needs
- Build robust and synergistic partnerships across the HIEC to support workforce development
- Work collaboratively on innovative research, evaluation and projects
- Use our expertise fully to contribute to reducing health inequalities and improve public health across the HIEC region
What my Organisation can offer to the HIEC?
London Metropolitan University as the largest single University in London with campuses in both North London and the City/East London has a unique offering and will be able to:
- Offer integrated multi-disciplinary and inter-professional curricula within a public health framework concerned with health impact which takes account of the social determinants of health
- Widen participation through our skills escalator approach through bespoke short training courses and CPD alongside an integrated awards framework from foundation degrees to doctoral programmes
- Share expertise and research findings on complex health concerns requiring multi-disciplinary approaches e.g. obesity; sexual violence; child abuse; mental health and wellbeing; bioethics; long-term conditions
- Offer expertise and tools to implement service user involvement and empowerment in policy implementation and curriculum delivery; cultural awareness and working with communities
- Access to research centres and institutes spanning public health: Primary Health and Social Care; Evaluation and Research; Child and Women Abuse Studies; Refugee Advice and Guidance; Health Research and Policy; Cities; Working Lives; Human Rights and Social Justice.
- Design multidisciplinary applied and action research: qualitative and mixed methods; policy implementation and evaluation based on collaboration with governmental departments and the voluntary sector e.g. DH, Diabetes UK and LondonMet, Diabetes Service users Involvement Project
- Expertise in evidence based practice including mental health; dietetics; health psychology; community nursing and social work.
- Model delivery of Interprofessional and evidence based practice, research and evaluation for improving health in the workplace though our Health and Wellbeing Centre
- Share knowledge, skills and resources e.g. science centre; student placements; digital media; Women’s Library and accommodation
- Work collaboratively with HIEC partners including projects, research and curriculum development
- Share knowledge base and skills on comparative urban health deriving from our international partnerships, eg New YorK/London Childhood Obesity Project; LondonMet/University of Western Cape Public Health Distance Learning Project
